Sofia Communist Tour

Sofia Communist Tour is a product that I designed few years ago. I realized how interesting and unknown for the visitors the communist past was.

How the Sofia Communist Tour will go?

I will pick you up from your hotel and we will walk to the central part of Sofia. There we will see the most important communist buildings related to the communist past of Bulgaria. We will tour the central part for around two and a half hours. During the tour I will provide some extremely interesting information and historical facts about the communism in Bulgaria. If you would like to get further information, we will get on metro for some 20 minutes and will get to the Socialist Art Museum. There you will admire some of the giant statues of communist leaders that are on display. There is an interesting projection about one of the greatest communist Bulgarian leaders, Georgi Dimitrov. We will get the metro back to the central part and I will drop you off in your hotel. In total the tour will take around 3 and a half hours.

Few interesting facts about the emblematic communist Trabant car

Produced from 1957 to 1990 by former East German car manufacturer.
It had a duroplast body mounted on a one-piece steel chassis, front-wheel drive, a transverse engine, and independent suspension.
The 1980s model did not have a tachometer. It did not have an indicator for either the headlights or turn signals. Neither it had fuel gauge, rear seat belts, or external fuel door.
The drivers had to pour a mix of gasoline and oil directly under the bonnet/hood.
Today it is part in the list of the Retro cars in Bulgaria

One Day Tour to Karlovo and Plovdiv

One Day Tour to Karlovo and Plovdiv is usually run during the rose harvest period in the Valley of Roses. The last Sunday of May takes place the Rose Festival in Karlovo. In the morning the participants enjoy rose picking in some of the rose fields in the area. People take photos, pick roses and admire the beauty of the vast rose fields. At noon starts the parade in the central part of the town. Before departure to Plovdiv we visit the birth house of the national hero of Bulgaria Vasil Levski, who was born in Karlovo.

The Tour of Plovdiv

The drive to Plovdiv takes about an hour. At around 3 pm we will arrive in Plovdiv – the second biggest town of Bulgaria. It has completely different ambience than Sofia and is the favorite places of most of the travelers that visit Bulgaria. Here the main area of interest is the Old Town. Some of the most interesting sites are the Roman Stadium and the Roman Theater dating to the 2nd century.

The Beautiful Houses in Plovdiv

We will visit few beautiful houses dating to the 18th and the 19th century that belonged to the wealthiest merchants in Bulgaria. Among them are:

Georgiadi house
Kuymdzhiouglu house – the biggest and the most beautiful in the Old town.
Balabanov`s family house
Hidliyan`s house
the restored beautiful house of Klianti will be on our way too.
the house of Lamartine and many other beautiful properties will make you to fall in love with this town.

Driving back

Our tour will take around two and a half to three hours. In the late afternoon we will leave to Sofia where we will arrive at around 8 pm.

One Day Tour to Karlovo and Plovdiv is a great possibility to enjoy the Rose Festival celebrations in Karlovo and to visit one of the most beautiful towns of Bulgaria – Plovdiv.

Day Tour to Karlovo and Koprivshtitsa is a great chance to see the beautiful rose valley and to visit the Koprivshtitsa architectural reserve. I usually run this tour during the rose harvest period – between mid-May and mid-June. It is full of rose scent spreading around the region of the roses.

In Karlovo you will visit a rose distillery where the rose petals will turn to oil before your eyes. You will get deep to the rose oil production in Bulgaria and its history. Picking rose petals directly from the fields will be the highlight of your day.

In Koprivshtitsa you will feel the spirit of the Bulgarian fighters for liberty and independence. Here the first gun shot when the famous April uprising broke. Today it is a historical and architectural reserve. You will visit the houses of the most prominent Bulgarian revolutionaries. Among them many writers, scholars, poets, men of letter. Koprivshtitsa is famous with its strong national spirit and the beauty of the surrounding nature.
